A Worldwide IndustryThe micro-finance industry is flourishing in countries
all over the world. Micro-credit is a powerful anti-poverty
tool that has demonstrated relevance to people on six continents
and in nearly every country. It is estimated that micro-finance
programmes now reach approximately eight million poor people
in developing countries.
The Future
The UK’s movement is growing steadily with
more and more support from government and the banks,
and was further helped along by the establishment
of a new Community Development Finance Association.
The sector works closely together, companies share experiences and regularly
met to discuss changes and advancements in the sector. There is a dedicated micro-finance
centre in Eastern Europe and one planned for Western Europe as well.
